Quaresma nears Inter switch

ROME (AFP) - Portugal winger Ricardo Quaresma is on the verge of becomming new Inter boss Jose Mourinho's second summer signing, according to the Gazetta dello Sport on Monday.
Following the arrival of Brazilian winger Alessandro Mancini from AS Roma earlier this month for around 13 million euros, Inter are set to meet FC Porto manager Jorge Mendes to discuss the transfer of Quaresma. Gazzetta reported that Mendes would be in Milan on Monday in an attempt to set a price for the player, with the two sides still some way apart in their valuation of the former Barcelona man. Porto allegedly want 40 million euros with Inter reluctant to pay more than half that sum. Mourinho admitted to Portuguese television station TVI on Sunday that he was hoping to sign the attacking midfielder. "It would be interesting to have him. But he plays for Porto and I'm the coach of Inter," said Mourinho. "I think the player would like to come here but I don't know if my managers have made an offer to Porto." While Quaresma looks to be heading to the San Siro, Gazzetta insisted that the transfer would not impede the possible arrival of Chelsea's England midfielder Frank Lampard. However, Mourinho told TVI that he may have to wait a year to get his man. "I think it will be easier to sign Lampard in 2009 when his contract has run out and hence I don't want to create problems with Chelsea," he said. Lampard's contract still has a year to run and although he is rumoured to have rejected a new deal at Stamford Brdige, Chelsea seem reluctant to sell. |

they can give Inter the scudetto nowGiorgio July 21st, 2008 14:18
The only reason why Inter would want to buy Quaresma is because Mourinho is there.I would personally never want Quaresma in my squad.
I cannot see anything special in this guy !!!

Giorgio you need to watch more of Quaresma...although he does have some attitude issues, he has major skill and plenty of specialness in him. Next time you see him, watch for his beautiful ability that he has at crossing balls into the area from the sideline using the outside of either foot. This leaves defence scratching their heads as he is the only known player currently playing that is able able to do this.ajax72 July 21st, 2008 20:16
The most technically gifted player ATM. Some of the things he does to/with the ball are simply fantastic. Under the right guidance he'll be better than CRonaldo. To cut it short-he's too good for Inter.chakal July 21st, 2008 21:50
i wonder why Barca or real didn't buy him, i agree, his football is to pretty for InterTontodonati July 21st, 2008 22:03
DaJohnner, this is your quote: "Watch for his beautiful ability he has (Quaresma) crossing balls into the area from the sideline using the outside of either foot." Are you trying to tell us that when he is crossing the ball from the left sideline he slices the ball with his left foot, but when he crosses the ball from the right sideline he slices the ball with his right foot? Whould it not be better if the crossed ball went toward the speeding forward rather than toward the netminder?SAJNSHE July 22nd, 2008 03:04
